LOS LUNAS — Physicist and mathematician Dave Thomas will present “The Flying Saucers of New Mexico: An Illustrated History,” a scientific examination of New Mexico UFO stories from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Los Lunas Transportation Center, 101 Courthouse Road.
“New Mexico has a history of unusual sightings including UFOs,” wrote Los Lunas Administrator Greg Martin in a recent press release. “This presentation will include information on incidents recorded in Roswell, Aztec, and our nearby neighbor, Socorro.
“Dave Thomas … brings a unique perspective with regards to the state’s history of unidentified flying object sightings.”
Thomas’ presentation of “The Flying Saucers of New Mexico: An Illustrated History” will describe what scientists really think happened during New Mexico’s famed UFO sightings.
It will also include a discussion on the complexities of space travel including traditional rockets, teleportation (think: “Beam me up, Scotty”), warp drive, relativistic effects and wormholes.
Thomas is a graduate of the New Mexico Tech where he was awarded the Brown Medal and the Langmuir Award. He is the president of the group New Mexicans for Science and Reason, and also a fellow of Committee for Skeptical Inquiry, the publishers of Skeptical Inquirer.
He is the author of several articles and presentations based on his research into unusual scientific phenomena.
This free public event is hosted by Friends of the Los Lunas Public Library and Museum, Los Lunas Public Library, Los Lunas Museum of Heritage and Arts, Roads Less Traveled Experience and the village of Los Lunas.
