Mary J. Andersen, a native New Mexican, has announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination for county commissioner of District 1.

Andersen is a graduate of Albuquerque High School. She earned a bachelor of science degree from Oklahoma State University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of South Dakota.

If elected, Andersen will be a newcomer to county government. She said she would bring to the position 40 years of business experience. She was the director of a large organization handling an annual budget of more than $13 million, governed by both federal and state regulations.

Andersen says she knows the importance of planning and is aware that teamwork is what makes an organization successful.

She said she believes that Valencia County must have a long-term plan for its growth.

“We need to balance the wants of a community while protecting our natural resources and welcoming companies that can bring good paying jobs. This will allow our citizens an opportunity to work in the community in which they live.”

Andersen says she offers Valencia County and District One intelligence, integrity and experience. She can be reached at 866-9294.
