Isabella Vigil, of Valencia High School, finished second in the 132 pound division at the New Mexico A-5A

Girls Powerlifting Championships in Rio Rancho last weekend. During the competition, Vigil set a state record in the bench press by lifting 150 pounds.

VHS teammate Nizhoni Apodaca came in fourth in her weight class.

On the boys’ side, the Jaguars finished seventh as a team in class 4A. Elijah Duran was second, Ethan Alderete and Taedon Gibson were third, while Cody DeBaun finished fourth.

For Belen, Ivander Wilson was third in his weight class in 4A. Los Lunas did not field a team.

Powerlifting is an NMAA activity but will become a sanctioned sport next year.
