Bosque Farms

Back To The Basics, currently the only herb store in Bosque Farms, opened its doors for business on May 7, and owners Donna and Larry Chambers hope folks will drop in to discover natural cures.

“The main thing is to help people get well naturally,” Donna Chambers said. “I want people to educate themselves for their own health, so they don’t have to run to the doctor every time they get a sniffle.”

Before opening the business at 1435 Bosque Farms Blvd., just south of Esperanza, Chambers was helping people with remedies out of her home, and “then it took off from there,” she said.

Back To The Basics offers more than 100 varieties of dried herbs and essential oils, in addition to quality vitamins. Natural hygiene products, such as deodorant, soap, toothpaste and female products, are available, too.

Chambers consults frequently with Michael James of Laguna, a certified herbicologist. James has made a blend of herbs, specifically to help those with asthma. This product is called “Hay-Asz,” and costs $9.95.

“A lot of people come in for asthma, arthritis and upper respiratory problems,” said Chambers, a Bosque Farms resident for the past 27 years with her husband Larry, pastor of Westside Family Chapel.

James will be available for free individual 15-minute consultations as part of an upcoming “grand opening.” Chambers herself is currently taking courses with the Herbal Healer Academy in order to become a certified herbicologist.

Even though a successful cure for arthritis has not come on the market yet, Chambers created her own blend of herbs, called “Arth Rite,” that brought relief to her mother, who had severe arthritic shoulder pain.

“The pain was so bad, she would just have to go to bed,” Chambers said. “I put my Mom on this (Arth Rite) a month ago, and she’s doing great now.”

For those people with a nagging cough, Chambers would likely recommend an herbal blend called Bryonia, made by Nelson, a national herbal manufacturer. She carries another line of national homeopathic products called Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia.

Back To The Basics store hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Chambers can be reached at 869-3901.
