The county and District 5-4A rivalry between Belen and Valencia played out Tuesday in baseball and softball, with both road teams winning.
The Valencia softball team (5-13, 3-1) moved into second place in district with a solid 6-3 victory at Belen (11-11, 2-3).
Neveah Bracamonte had 17 strikeouts for the Jaguars, who play Thursday at Grants.
The Eagles had a quick turnaround, playing Wednesday at district leader St. Pius. The Sartans won 7-4.
In baseball action, after Valencia (8-13, 2-2) was unable to score with the bases loaded and no outs in the second inning, Belen(15-5, 2-2) responded with eight runs in the third and won 20-9.
On Friday, the Jaguars host district leader Grants while the Eagles entertain St. Pius.
Los Lunas Softball
The Tigers (10-9, 4-0) are tied with Albuquerque High atop District 5-5A after
sweeping a doubleheader Saturday against Santa Fe with both games ending early because of the mercy rule.
LLHS hosts a doubleheader Friday with Capital, the last home games of the season.
Los Lunas Baseball
Los Lunas (12-7, 4-0) is playing its best ball of the season, riding a seven-game winning streak. The Tigers are tied with Rio Grande and Albuquerque High atop District 5-5A.
LLHS blasted five home runs in a doubleheader sweep of Santa Fe. Los Lunas plays two games at Capital Friday.
