Belen-

Belen’s senior center Daniel Corrales has been named to the Red All Star team for the New Mexico High School Coaches Association’s Red-Green All-Star Basketball Game to be held in Santa Fe this coming weekend.

“I am excited he has this opportunity to showcase his skills in the all-star game,” Belen head coach Donald Marquez said.

“Daniel is not only a great basketball player but also a great kid. He is a very coachable young man. The coaching staff was honored to be able to coach him.”

Corrales averaged 14 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks per game, leading Belen in those categories during this past season, and helping the Eagles to an appearance in the 4A state semifinals, while battling knee injuries all season.

Corrales’ most dominate game of the year came in the third contest of the season when Belen squared off with Bernalillo.

He scored 35 points and had 14 rebounds in Belen’s come-from-behind, 66-62 victory over the Spartans.

Corrales also had 23 points and 20 rebounds in a win over Albuquerque Academy midway through the season.

He also overcame a late-season knee sprain suffered in a game against Valencia, to lead Belen to its first winning season in four years.
