The Belen School Board was expected to fill two high school head coaching positions at a special meeting to address personnel matters Tuesday night.

Belen High School Athletic Director Danny Griego said on Tuesday the board was expected to approve head coaches for baseball and wrestling. The outcome was not available at News-Bulletin press time.

Last week, Griego said two candidates had been interviewed for each position. Brothers Joe and Tom Wisneski were candidates for the baseball job once held by their father, Al, who is a Belen School board member. Long-time Los Lunas High School assistant Steven Chavez and Aztec head coach Rodney Romero, who led the Tigers to the state championship in Belen last season, were interviewed for the wrestling position.

The baseball job was vacated when Mike Gutierrez resigned after two seasons. The wrestling position came open when Jerry Moya, the Eagles’ head coach for 13 seasons, resigned to accept the position of strength and conditioning coach at the high school.
