The body of a woman was found over the weekend on a piece of property on N.M. 47, about 7 miles south of the city of Rio Communities.

Valencia County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Joseph Rowland said deputies were called out to a home in the 1700 block of Rio Communities Blvd. — N.M. 47 — shortly after 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 16.

The homeowner came home and found the woman under a small tree on the property, Rowland said.

“During the course of our detectives’ investigation, no obvious signs of foul play were found and there was no obvious trauma,” the lieutenant said.

After an all-night investigation of the scene, with assistance from the New Mexico State Police crime scene processing unit, the woman was transported to the Office of the Medical Investigation for identification and determination of how she died.

“We don’t have an identification at this time,” Rowland said. “We can say she was an adult female. If anyone knows of a recent missing person, please let us know.”
