Late nights and hard work paid off for Matthew Cordova as he was awarded first place at the Super Nationals Car Show held the weekend of Feb. 2 in Albuquerque.

Matthew, 10, is a fourth grader at Bosque Farms Elementary School. He entered his 1995 Fast Track quarter midget, which he races at Sandia Motor Park biweekly during the racing season. He and his father worked late into the night to get the car ready for the show. He also raced at the Winter Nationals in Las Vegas, Nev. in December of 2001, where he finished sixth in his class.

His biggest racing fans are his parents Mel and Laurie Cordova and his sister Kaitlin. Rick Moya of Bosque Farms, who owns Mesa Equipment and Supply, is his sponsor for the 2002 season, which comes in handy when you find yourself upside down as Matthew did during a race last October. Matthew finished second in the main event with the help from Roadrunner Quarter Midget Association fathers.
