On Sunday, April 21, the Tomé Gallery will celebrate Earth Day with a fun-filled, community outreach program.

There will be a special exhibition by artist Nancy Corrigan, information about the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District conservation efforts in the bosque and a special information presentation by the Tomé-Adelino Volunteer Fire Department. Wildlife experts and nature conservancy experts are also expected to have information available to the public.

The photography of Corrigan will be featured in a special exhibition titled “Celebrating the Bosque.” The collection of photographs captures the delicate and powerful beauty of one of the area’s greatest local treasures. A portion of the sales that day will be donated to the Tomé-Adelino Volunteer Fire Department.

The MRGCD representative, Jasmine Najmi, will be on hand to answer questions and to distribute information to the public about efforts to preserve and protect the bosque. The information will help educate the public about the importance of protecting the environment of the bosque and explain the present efforts of the MRGCD and future plans in this very important project.

Members of the Tomé-Adelino Volunteer Fire Department will be on hand with a fire truck for the children to climb on. They will be offering information on protecting private property from wildfires and efforts to protect the bosque from fire during this dangerous season.

Wildlife experts are being contacted to add to the fun, informative atmosphere, but participation by those groups is not confirmed at this date.

Free refreshments will be served and music will be provided by the artists of the Tomé Gallery. The public is encouraged to attend and support the volunteers of the fire department and celebrate Earth Day as a community.
