The Belen Police Department will be conducting a Toys for Tots event, although this year they are considering the health and safety of everyone, especially the children.

Santa Claus told Belen Police Chief James Harris he will be making a special trip to the Belen area to deliver gifts to children ages 2 to 10 at their homes within the city. The actual delivery date has yet to be determined.

In order to make this year as special as possible, the Belen Police Department will be conducting donation events throughout the month of November and part of December. The department will be setting up donation boxes at several local businesses.

Donations of new unopened toys would be greatly appreciated. Cash donations and toy donations will also be accepted at the Belen Police Department.

The officers of the department are also taking part in a No Shave November, in which each officer participating will be donating $50 for Toys for Tots. A Facebook judging for best beard will be conducted so the officer with the best beard will have bragging rights for the following year.

Parents are encouraged to sign their children up for the event. Children ages 2 to 10 can be signed up at the Belen Police Department from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The deadline to sign up will be 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 11. A city water bill will be required as proof of residency.
