Los Lunas wrestling

The Los Lunas Tigers boys wrestling team was in action last week when they hosted another round of District Duals at LLHS.

The Tigers came away with a 75-6 team win over the Capital Jaguars during the meet.

In the 113-pound category, Noah Gurule was able to get the win via pin over Capital’s Matthew Trujillo.

Aaron Pyle followed that pin with a pin of his own for Los Lunas on Roman Ulibarri in the 120-pound category.

Then, Aaron Zamora made it three pins in a row as he took the 126-pound category over Avelina Trujillo.

Naithan Gurule was able to get a 6-5 decision over Brandon Solis to take the 145-pound category, and James Garcia took the 220-pound win via pin over Hernan Salas.

James Bachicha, Isaiah Baca, Jonathan Trujillo, Nicholas Torres, Miguel Andrade, Zander Doyle, Andrew Alfero and Ryan Vega all took home wins via forfeit in their categories.

The Tigers also defeated Santa Fe during the Duals by a final of 73-6.

In the meeting, Ryan Vega, Naithan Gurule, Jonathan Trujillo and Andrew Alfero all won their match ups via pins.

Miguel Andrade came away with a 15-0 win in his match, while Nicholas Torres won his match by a 7-0 decision.

The Tigers only loss to Santa Fe during the meet was a blind forfeit that accounted for Santa Fe’s only 6 points.

The boys then went to Robertson over the weekend for the Robertson Cardinal Invite and it was a successful trip for the Tigers.

Los Lunas would walk away with the overall team win, scoring 383 points, winning by 155 points over second-place finisher, Moriarty.

During the Invite, Ryan Vega scored the championship in the 285-category. While Miguel Andrade took home top honors in the 170-pound category, Nicholas Torres took home the 160-pound category title and Naithan Gurule won the 145-pound category during the invite, and Isaiah Baca won the 138-pound category.

Noah Gurule took runner-up in the 113-pound category, while Ernie Gonzales did the same in the 120-pound category. Zander Doyle also took home a second-place finish, his in the 182-pound category, while Andrew Alfero was second in the 195-pound category as well as James Garcia in the 220-pound category.

The Los Lunas girls were also participating in the District Duals last week.

Against Capital, Julianna Lucero got a pin in her 100-pound category matchup. Then, it was Kiyah Padilla taking a 13-4 major win to give Los Lunas the 126-pound category.

Because of forfeits due to lack of wrestlers for Los Lunas, Capital did come away with the 30-12 team win.

The girls were then off to Robertson for the Robertson Cardinal Invite, where Padilla picked up a second-place in the 107-pound category during the meet. Lucero was able to come away with the championship in the 126-pound category, defeating Remedios Coen from Espanola Valley in the finals.

The Tigers, both boys and girls teams, will be at another District Duals meet this week. This time it will be at Albuquerque High School.

 

Belen wrestling

It was a busy week for the Belen wrestling teams, as they were in four different meetings this past week.

The Eagle boys began the week with a match up with Socorro. The Eagles were able to come away with a 51-27 team victory during the meeting.

In the 113-pound category, Josiah Pemble took the victory for Belen over Terrell Padilla via pin. For the 120-pound category, Belen’s Julian Sisneros got a win over Isaiah Ocampo via pin as well.

Peter Duran took care of Jordan Armijo to win the 138-pound category, while Damien Wood won the 145-pound category over Brian Armijo via pin.

Gabriel Tharnish pinned Patrick Woods to win the 152-pound category for the Eagles, while Ely Gutierrez got a pin victory over Cenyon Scarborough for the 160-pound category win.

Anthony Rodriguez got a 6-5 decision over Warren Kurtnaker for the 170-pound victory, and Augustine Lopez got a win over Caden Moreland, who was injured during their match and could not continue.

Belen’s wrestling team in action against Capital. The Eagles were busy last week participating in four different matches.

The boys then participated in the District Duals in Los Lunas, beating Capital, 45-21, during the meet.

In that meet, Matias Padilla got the 4-3 decision over Matthew Trujillo to win the 113-pound category. Tregg Johnson then won the 220-pound category over Hernan Salas via pin.

The Eagles then got forfeit wins for Quinton Thompson, Gabriel Tharnish, Anthony Rodriguez and Santiago Sisneros.

Belen then played host to Roswell in the middle of the week, coming home with a 72-6 victory over the Coyotes.

The Eagles then hosted to the Kirby Invitational over the weekend, getting team wins in all five duals that they participated in.

Belen defeated Bloomfield 42-33, Cleveland 54-25, Grants 72-9, Socorro 60-18 and Valencia 75-6.

Against Bloomfield, Julian Sisneros, Damien Wood, Gabriel Tharnish, Ely Gutierrez, Bobby Orona, Augustine Lopez, Tregg Johnson and Santiago Sisneros came away with wins.

In the match with Cleveland the winners were Wood, Tharnish, Gutierrez, Orona, Julian Sisneros, Santiago Sisneros, Marcus Rimorin, Quinton Thompson and Anthony Rodriguez.

Against Grants it was Rimorin, Wood, Tharnish, Gutierrez, Orona, Rodriguez, Josiah Pemble, Augustine Lopez, Julian Sisneros, Santiago Sisneros, Adrian Anaya and Tregg Johnson coming away with wins.

In the meet with Socorro Rimorin, Pemble, Anaya, Wood, Tharnish, Gutierrez, Rodriguez, Orona, Johnson, Santiago Sisneros and Julian Sisneros got victories for Belen.

Rimorin, Pemble, Thompson, Anaya, Wood, Tharnish, Gutierrez, Rodriguez, Orona, Johnson, Peter Duran, Santiago Sisneros and Julian Sisneros all came away with wins in the meet with Valencia.

The boys also faced off against Los Alamos on Monday night this week, taking a 51-27 overall team victory.

Pemble, Javid Sanchez and Santiago Sisneros won via forfeit against the Hilltoppers.

Marcus Rimorin took the 106-pound category with a pin over Esteban Wright; while Julian Sisneros took the 120-pound category with a pin of Jonah Mondragon. Damien Wood then took the 145-pound category over Jimmy Wilson with a pin.

Also winning with a pin was Ely Gutierrez over Joseph Archuleta in the 160-pound category, Bobby Orona in the 182-pound category over Eliseo Valdez and Tregg Johnson in the 182-pound category over Zackary Schwarzkopf.

The Lady Eagles were also busy last week, competing twice during the week.

In the match with Socorro, the Eagles fell overall as a team, 42-12, but they were victorious in two categories.

Callie Morgan defeated Mariana Perez via pin to win the 100-pound category for Belen.

Kaitlyn Maria would win the 235-pound category via forfeit for the Eagles.

At the Kirby over the weekend, the girls matched up with Bloomfield, with Morgan and Maria both coming away with wins in their categories again.

Bloomfield took the match, though, 24-9, on mainly forfeits for the team win.

The Eagles, both boys and girls, are scheduled to square off with St. Pius in Albuquerque this week.

 

Valencia wrestling

The Jaguars were in action a couple of times last week on the boys side, and once on the girls side.

First up, on the boys side, the Jags were at the Albuquerque Academy Senior Night Duals going up against Espanola Valley. As a team, the Jaguars were on the losing end, dropping a 36-33 decision.

Richard Madrid captured a 7-2 decision win for Valencia over Chiro Barrita to take the 113-pound category.

The Jaguars got wins via forfeit for Hyrum Burgess, Quinn Burgess, Anthony Cano, Elijah Duran and Omar Estrada.

Next up, the boys were at the Kirby Invitational in Belen over the weekend.

While the team lost all five meetings overall, there were a lot of individual victories.

Against Socorro, the Jaguars lost 60-21, but saw wins in three categories.

Richard Madrid took home the 113-pound category via pin over Terrell Padilla, while Elijah Duran got a 6-4 decision to win the 195-pound category over Damian Otero.

Anthony Cano and Isaiah Lopez got a win via forfeit in the meet.

Duran got the Jaguars only win over Belen during the Invitational, beating Augustine Lopez via pin to take home the 195-pound category.

Against Bloomfield, the Jaguars got wins via forfeit for Duran, Estrada and Andrew Rightly.

Against Grants, Isaiah Lopez pinned Joe Clawson for the 106-pound category win. Then Richard Madrid took care of Ryan Welsh via pin for the 113-pound category, while Anthony Cano pinned Anthony Maestas for the win in the 145-pound category. Valencia then got a win from Omar Estrada when he pinned Jordan Naef to win the 220-pound category.

During that meet, the Jaguars also got a win via forfeit for Elijah Duran.

For the Lady Jaguars, last week was a success, as they took home two team victories at the Albuquerque Academy Senior Night Duals.

First up, the Lady Jaguars got a 36-6 win over Albuquerque Academy.

All of the Lady Jaguars wins came via forfeit in that matchup, with wins for Chiara Perez, Kaila Houck, Nevaeh Bracamonte, Katie Booth, Sierra Warren and Nichole Jaramillo.

Valencia also picked up a 35-0 win over Espanola Valley during the meet.

Katie Booth came away with a 15-0 win over Remedios Coen to take the 126-pound category.

All other wins during the meet came via forfeit. Those were for Chiara Perez, Kaila Houck, Nevaeh Bracamonte, Sierra Warren and Nichole Jaramillo.

Valencia is scheduled to host Highland and then travel to St. Pius during this week for district duals.
