Carolina B. Cogswell, 93, of Los Lunas, passed away peacefully on Jan. 25, 2023.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 2, at Community Bible Church, in Los Lunas, to honor Carolina’s life and to give those who knew and loved her the opportunity to remember her.

May she rest in peace and be forever remembered as a beloved wife, sister, aunt and friend.

Carolina was born March 2, 1929, in El Paso, Texas, to Edgardo T. and Carolina Jimenez. She grew up there and later attended two years at UT El Paso.

She married the love of her life, Jerry Cogswell, on June 27, 1954, and together they shared a lifetime of love, adventure and happiness.

Carolina was employed by and retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone after 21 years of service. Along with her husband, Carolina was an antique and race car enthusiast.

At the 1960 National Drag Races in Kansas City, Mo., Carolina won her E class race driving a 1952 Studebaker convertible, and is credited with being the first woman to win a nationally-sanctioned drag racing event.

Carolina is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Jerry; and her two brothers, Edgar Jimenez and Robert (Bobby) Jimenez.

She is survived by brother-in-law, Lee Cogswell and wife, Trudy; nephews, Jeremy and Justin Cogswell; nephew, Edgar Jimenez and wife, Lita, and Kerry, Michael and Carli, and Greg Gwyn and wife, Amy; and niece, Leslie Newman Cash and husband Russell. She also leaves behind many long-time dear friends.

Carolina’s warmth and grace touched the lives of many, and her absence will leave a void. She will be remembered for her strength, her unwavering faith, her optimistic outlook, and her love for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests making donations to Carolina’s supportive church body — Community Bible Church in Los Lunas.
