Cecilia “Ceci” Ymelda Zamora Coiner

1940-2022

Cecilia “Ceci” Ymelda Zamora Coiner

Cecilia “Ceci” Ymelda Zamora Coiner, age 82, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by love from her family, friends and loyal dog, Elmer.

She was born in 1940 to her parents, Deluvina and Juan Estevan, in Tomé. Ceci was the sixth out of 10 kids. Each of her siblings meant the world to Ceci. There was never a shortage of laughter when the families would gather to play cards or make tamales.

She worked most of her life in the title business. Ceci’s coworkers would tell you that she would be the first to arrive and would arrive in style, dressed impeccably.  Although it wasn’t her job, she would prepare the coffee and, despite her busy days, if she noticed someone was without, she would provide. That is who she was, a caring woman of class and beauty.

Ceci married Leonard Coiner, Buddy Roo, as she liked to call him, and then spent 23 years happily married. He preceded her in death in 2011.

Ceci retired in 2008, and enjoyed spending her time gardening, watching her Cowboys and Rockies play, visiting with family and, much to their appreciation, spoiling her grandkids. She kept her house stocked with all the goodies a kid could want, but nothing — nothing — topped her tortillas.

The last 10 years, Ceci battled the symptoms of a stroke with grace and sweetness rarely seen. Even with limited mobility and inability to speak, she never failed to grace you with a smile and a hand squeeze. Ceci’s positive nature never wavered even until the very end.

We were lucky to have you for as long as we did. It gives us peace to know that you are walking hand in hand with your most precious son, Norman Otero; loving husband, Buddy Roo; granddaughter, Gabriella Otero; and your parents, Juan Estevan and Deluvina Zamora.

Ceci will be missed by her two daughters, Shawnee Otero and Geraldine (Geri) Gurule and husband, Randall; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to express the most heartfelt appreciation to her caregivers over the years, including Norma and Phil Torres, Monique Miscusi, Liz Padilla and Deanna Padilla.

Services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 6, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tomé. A public viewing will be held at 11 a.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 12 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Tomé Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jon Otero, Calgary Otero, Marcos Zamora, Danny Leroy Zamora, Randall Gurule, Kylie Spangler, Kyle Coiner and Christopher Pierce.
