1934-2022

Charlie C. Carrejo, age 88, a resident of Los Chavez, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2022. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church.

Charlie is the son of the late Enrique Carrejo and Josefa Castillo Carrejo. He was born in Horse Springs, N.M., and was one of 13 children. Charlie was a valued employee of Creamland Dairies for 42 years. His milk route involved all of Valencia County.

Charlie wasn’t just a milk man, he knew everyone and everyone knew him. He served in the US Army. Charlie was on the U.S. Army boxing team. He was inducted into the Hispanic Boxing Hall of Fame, and was always active in the training of local youth.

Charlie and his wife, Margie, were mayordomos of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Los Chavez. He fought a brave battle with Parkinson’s for 14 years.

Charlie is preceded in death by his great-grandson, Taran; his parents and his 10 siblings, and in- laws, R.P Cordova and Alicia Gabaldon Cordova.

He is survived by his wife and childhood sweetheart of 66 years, Margie Cordova Carrejo; three loving children, Eugene, of Dallas, Texas, Anthony (Marla) of Long Beach, Calif., and Josie (Richard), of Farmington; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Alice Chavez and Dolores Casquiero; and many loving nieces and nephews.

A public visitation will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church at 11:30 a.m., Friday, April 22. A Rosary will be recited at 12:30 p.m., with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Nicholas, Gabriel, Dylan and Jemile Carrejo, Justin Murray, Harold and Jim Smith, Jake Nelson, and Michael Gonzalez.
