Cicilia E. “Mickey” Chavez

Cicilia E. “Mickey” Chavez, age 70, was born on Feb. 16, 1952. Our beloved Cicilia went to be with the Lord on May 10, 2022.

Cicilia was a Belen resident in her early years, and proceeded life in Los Chavez with her husband, Ruben Chavez Sr., for 51 years. Mickey started working in her adolescent years at her family-owned restaurant, Linda’s Café. She continued working throughout her life, and she completed her career at Isleta Casino after 10 years.

Cicilia was an extremely lovable and outgoing woman who would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She was a strong believer in God, and loved to attend Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church.

Mickey enjoyed spending her days with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as well as family and friends. Cicilia’s favorite things to do were to host family gatherings, such as Christmas Eve, Thanksgiving, the RC matanza, poker games and so much more. Cicilia was the life of the party!

If there were words to describe this lady, you would know she was comforting, joyful, positive and a woman who would never let you leave her home on an empty belly.

On May 3, 2020, Cicilia suffered a severe stroke, which she continued to fight until the day of her passing. She was cared for by her husband, family, caregivers and so many others during the time, and continued to live life with a spirit full of wit and humor.

Cicilia is preceded in death by her parents, Ramon, and Eloisa Sanchez; brothers, Raymond, Angel, Orlando, Johnny, Adan and Eloy; her sisters, Carol and Corina, and her in-laws.

She is survived by her husband, Ruben Chavez Sr.; her children, Melissa, Ruben and Emilio Chavez; her daughter-in-law, Kim Chavez; sisters, Erlinda, Lillian and Edna; her grandchildren, Briana and Orlando, Mitch, Aspen and Kevin, Jordyn, Daniel and Annalisa, Lexi, Paris, Nicole, Jenessa, Jeffrey and Viviana; great-grandchildren, Bradley, Brooke, Melanie, Emmett, Addison and Gracie-Mae on the way; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

All services were held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Monday May 23.

We would like to give a special thank you to Ambercare, Hospice, Cicilia’s caregiver’s, Jeanette and Melissa, as well as to everyone who has helped and supported us through this time.
