The Valencia County Animal Shelter is holding its third annual Countdown to Christmas community outreach event for kids and pets.

The event — which will deliver pet food, a dog house/straw, and/or kids gifts to residents’ homes on Christmas Eve — is open to all Valencia County residents.

Sign up by Tuesday, Dec. 13, by texting VCAC supervisor Patty Mugan at 505-252-7628 with the following information:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Kids names, boy/girl, age, clothing/shoe size and if they have a favorite type of toy (Barbie, Legos, Paw Patrol, etc.)
  • Do you need dog or cat food?
  • Do you need a dog house or straw?

If you do not receive a reply to your text, contact Mugan by email at [email protected].

If you would like to donate items for pets or kids, bring them to the Valencia County Animal Shelter, 1209 N.M. 314, in Los Lunas. The shelter is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

Items must be new and unwrapped.

Monetary donations for pet food and dog houses can be made directly to the local nonprofit, All For Animals. Donations are 100 percent tax deductible and there are no fees on either end when using the following link for the PayPal Giving Fund, paypal.com/fundraiser/charity/3745404.

If you donate directly to AFA, send a text to Patty Mugan at 505-252-7628 with your first and last name, and she will let the organization know the donation is specifically for the community outreach event.
