District baseball action starts next week for Belen, Valencia and Los Lunas.

This week, LLHS faced off against BHS and VHS as the trio tuned up for district play.

Belen

A frantic rally by Belen (10-2) came up short Wednesday, with Los Lunas (7-7) hanging on for an 8-7 victory to even the season series at 1-1.

The Tigers took an 8-3 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning powered by a two-run home run from Kaden Chavez. Los Lunas pitcher Ryan Castillo was cruising along until the Eagles were able to post four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull within one run. But the Tigers’ Kaden Bell came on in relief to shut the door.

No Belen statistics were immediately available. The Eagles defeated LLHS 10-8 earlier this season in the Cleveland tournament.

Los Lunas

Los Lunas scored five runs in the third inning to break open a tight game and the Tigers went on to defeat Valencia 13-2 Tuesday in a game shortened to five innings because of the mercy rule.

Paul Cieremens went the distance for the Tigers, giving up six hits to get the victory. At the plate, Cieremans had two doubles and drove in two runs. Casey Herrell also batted in a pair of runs for LLHS.

Eliseo Ramirez and Eddie Bracamonte had two hits each for Valencia (5-10.)

It was the only meeting between the Tigers and Jaguars this season.
