David Reed Cook

David Reed “PawPaw” Cook, of Belen, was called home to the Lord Aug. 12, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Belen on Aug. 1, 1943.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Etta Mae Cook; and his brother, Henry Cook.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Linda Cook, of Belen; daughter, Angela (Cook) Hill (Randy), of Los Lunas; son, David Nathan Cook (Lisa), of Vacaville, Calif.; sister, Martha Smith, of Albuquerque; brothers, Larry Cook (Judy), of Alabama, and Richard Cook, of Colorado; his seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, Ryan and Ashley Hill (Lilly, Serenity, Austin), Kaitlyn (Hill) and Santiago Baca (Graycee), Randa (Hill) and Dustin Roper (Randin, Mikayla, Claire), Kyle and Dana Hill (Ross, Reese, Meika, Savannah, Oakley and Kyler), Breanne, Susan and Ashlyn Cook; and many nieces and nephews.

David proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he got to travel and see the world with a tour in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1981 as a staff sergeant E/6 with the following awards: National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal (two awards) clasp, bronze, 4 loops; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars.

David loved John Wayne “The Duke” and James Bond “007” movies and memorabilia. He enjoyed crocheting and crocheted many gifts for his family.

He enjoyed sudoku, crosswords and playing games like cookie jam and solitaire on his tablet. He could make you laugh with one of his many (dry) jokes;, he was a jokester and he always had a pinch waiting for your behind.

He is loved beyond measure. He is extremely missed. We know he is whole and happy and we rejoice in knowing we’ll see him again. Ich liebe dich, PawPaw.

A viewing and visitation will be held at Noblin Funeral Home, 418 W. Reinken Ave, Belen, from 3:30-5:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 19. A memorial celebration of life with military honors will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, at The Miguel House Homestead, 8 Miguel Lane, Los Lunas.
