After falling to Los Lunas 8-7 last week, Belen (12-4)  went on to finish in second place in the Moriarty Invitational.

BHS opened the district 5-4A season Tuesday at St. Pius with an 8-2 setback.

Also in district 5-4A, Valencia (6-11) started on the road Tuesday at Grants with the Pirates winning 7-3. The Jaguars beat Miyamura Saturday to end an eight-game losing streak.

LLHS (8-7) defeated Miyamura 5-4 Tuesday. District 5-5A action begins Saturday with a doubleheader at home against Manzano.

Softball

The Belen Eagles celebrated the championship of the Moriarty tournament after defeating the host Fighting Pintos 27-0 on Saturday.

The Eagles (9-7) hosted St. Pius Tuesday in the first district 5-4A game of the season, losing 11-1.

Valencia (3-10) opened district action Tuesday with a 19-3 win at Grants. The Jaguars went 1-2 in the Kristin Griego Tournament in Rio Rancho over the weekend with the  victory coming against Los Lunas, 9-4.

On Tuesday, LLHS (6-9) fell to West Mesa 6-4. District action begins Saturday with a double-header at home against Manzano.
