The Belen High School baseball team split its second doubleheader of the season at Socorro on Tuesday, losing the first game 10-7 but coming back to take the nightcap, 14-8.

Belen jumped out on the Warriors in Tuesday’s first game at Socorro. Bobby Baca led off the game with a single, and senior Angelo Gabaldon followed with a home run to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

The Warriors tied the game with single runs in the first and second innings. The hosts blew the game open with seven runs in the fourth, aided by three Eagle errors.

Belen came from behind to win the second game after Socorro posted five runs in the first frame. Belen trailed 7-4 before scoring five runs in the sixth inning to take a 9-7 lead.

Belen got a lot of production out of the top of the order. The top three hitters in the lineup went a combined 15 for 26 in the two games.

Leadoff hitter Baca was 6 for 9 with five runs scored, Gabaldon was 4 for 9 with six runs, and Steve Sanchez was 5 for 9, including four doubles, with three runs and seven RBI.
