Edward Paul Melendrez

Edward Paul Melendrez

Edward Paul Melendrez, age 58, loving son, adored brother, steadfast uncle, and the most loyal friend, passed away on Monday, Sept. 19, 2022.

Strong as a bull, Eddie fought blood cancer courageously to the very end. Eddie was born in 1963 in Las Cruces, N.M.,  and grew up in Los Lunas as a proud Tiger alumnus of Los Lunas High School. He graduated from NMSU in 1986, where he played football.

If you knew Edward, Eduardo, Eddie, Ed or Radar, you knew his love for sports. You could find Eddie either playing golf, watching the LLHS football team win another game or watching NFL on TV. He was sometimes called a loner, but we all knew how he communicated through his humble and quiet love for others.

He is survived by his parents, Priscilla Melendrez and Ralph (Connie) Melendrez; and five siblings, Ralph (Missy) Melendrez, Tom Melendrez, Heidi (Bob) Sweeney, Ben (Shanda) Melendrez and Jeremy Melendrez. He had several nephews and nieces, Jeffrey Padilla, Jered (Yvette) Padilla, Geovanna Padilla, Gavin Sweeney, Santino Melendrez, Jordan Melendrez, Samantha Sweeney, Joshua Melendrez, Placido Melendrez, Marina Melendrez, Grant Sweeney, Loyal Padilla, Samantha Melendrez and Gea Padilla; and great-nephews and -niece, Omar Cepeda, Brody Padilla and Bella Melendrez; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and lifelong friends who he called brother.

In lieu of flowers, Eddie would appreciate a donation to Brent’s Place, brentsplace.org. They were wonderful with him and many others.

A visitation will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church, 3466 Main St. NE, Los Lunas, with a Rosary to be recited at 10:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m.
