Edwin Martinez

Edwin Martinez, age 70, a resident of Los Lunas, was surrounded by his loving family when he went to be with our Lord on June 15, 2022, after a courageous battle with COPD. He was born in Albuquerque.

Edwin proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He traveled to many countries overseas aboard the USS Basilone DD/DDE 824 as a radio man. Edwin enjoyed yard work, going to casinos and working on crossword puzzles. He worked as a cross-country truck driver for CRST Inc., traveling throughout the United States.

Edwin graduated from Manzano High School and went on to attend Highland University in Las Vegas, N.M.

He is preceded in death by his father, Richard Martinez; maternal grandparents, Alfredo and Tercilia Sanchez, of Valencia; paternal grandparents, Eduardo and Victoria Martinez, of Los Cerrillos, N.M.

Edwin is survived by his mother, Elia Martinez, of Los Lunas; brother, Danny (Tracy), of Los Lunas, and Victor Martinez (Gary), of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and sister, Diana Martinez, of Los Lunas; as well as many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

All services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Friday, July 1, beginning with a public visitation at 2 p.m., followed by a Rosary to be recited at 2:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place at 3 p.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Daniel and Nathaniel Martinez, and Edward and Adrian Apodaca. Honorary pallbearers will be Miguel Martinez, Little Daniel and Edward Apodaca Jr.

The family would like to thank Katie, Diana, Ambercare Hospice, and all staff from Sierra Springs for all the love and care they gave to Edwin.
