Eligio J. Aragon

1953-2023

Eligio J. Aragon

Eligio J. Aragon passed away on March 17, 2023. He was born and raised in Los Lunas on Oct. 24, 1953.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Lena Aragon; and brother, Norbert Aragon.

Eligio “Alley Cat” is survived by his son, Lucas Aragon; and daughter, Salinas Aragon (Cameron); grandchildren, Marcos Aragon, Michael Aragon and Gabriel Myers; sisters, Polly Tarin, Lou Aragon and Angela Koenig; brother, Antonio Aragon (Betty); special friend, Karley Swiontek, and many loving nieces and nephews.

It was said that Alley Cat had nine lives, so it came as a shock — maybe to him most of all — to learn he’d used them all up on Friday. He’d always had the extraordinary ability to pull through and recover from whatever life threw at him.

Eligio loved fly fishing, excavating and his children more than anything. He was the kindest, funniest man I’ve ever known, and I’m sure many people would agree; always willing to go out of his way to help someone in need, and ready to brighten your day with a funny story.

He was an excellent mechanic and could always be found in his spare time helping someone fix their car.

Because of his exceptional operating skills, Eligio was highly respected by archeologists who normally wouldn’t let a backhoe within a quarter mile of a site. He has been flown out to Egypt for a dig and he’s been written up in Achaeology Magazine. He contributed so much to archeology in life and continues contributing to science in death, with his body being donated to science.

Services will be scheduled upon the return of his remains.
