Elizabeth Jean Scalf

Elizabeth Jean Scalf, age 82, a resident of Belen, passed away on Jan. 26, 2023.

She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Women of the Moose. Elizabeth was born in Bemidji, Minn., weighing a whopping 2 pounds, 1 ounce. She was a graduate of Carl Sandburg High School, class of ’61.

Baptized in an Indian River, Elizabeth was the No. 1 Poppy Sales lady. She enjoyed dancing and swimming, earning the nickname “Polar Bear” because she loved the water, hot or cold. She enjoyed traveling with all 13 members of the family.

Elizabeth enjoyed her great-nephews and nieces, even getting down to the floor to play with them. In short, she loved life. She was also a member of the Belen Christian Church.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, John and Donna Morgan; three siblings, Phyllis June Morgan, John Morgan II and Russell Lee Morgan; her son, Russell Eugene Scalf; grandson, John Phillip Scalf; as well as her grandparents and great-grandparents.

She is survived by her sister, Ruth Gettings; nieces, April Russell (Bill) and Candice Donche (Frank); sons, John Scalf (Kelly), David Scalf and Steven Scalf; and daughter, June Kramer (Ken); nephews, Randy Gettings (Lisa) and David Clay (Terri); grandchildren, Billi Ann Hall, Jenna Scalf, Amber Kramer and Kyle Kramer; two great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, who all loved her dearly.

A celebration of her life will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, Feb. 10, at S&J Sporting Goods/Sam’s Place Rental Hall, 544 Main St., NW, Los Lunas.

Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Russell, Roger Russell, Darren Donche, Colton Donche, Andres Orona, Jenna Scalf, Billi Ann Hall and Amber Kramer.
