Elizabeth “Linda” Gabaldon

Elizabeth “Linda” Gabaldon, age 68, a resident of Peralta, passed away at 4:52 p.m., Friday, Oct. 7, surrounded by her husband of 46 years and their three children.

Services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Saturday, Oct. 22, beginning with a viewing at 11:30 a.m., followed by a Rosary at 12:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery following the services.

Linda was born July 8, 1954, to Efren and Helen Apodaca, of Valencia, (now known as Peralta) where she was a life-long resident. In 1975, she met John, and they married soon after on Feb. 28, 1976. Together, they went on to have three wonderful children.

Linda was a loving and wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, who gave her all to everyone she loved. She was a surrogate mother and grandmother to many as she only knew how to love big. If she loved you, you were family.

Linda and John made their home a place of peace and solace for not only their family but for anyone who needed to feel loved and welcomed. She was one of the strongest, sweetest and most loving women to ever walk this earth, and we were blessed to have her as the head of the family.

Linda graduated from Los Lunas High school in 1972, and went on to work for Los Lunas Schools as an educational assistant, retiring in 2004. She was a cheerleading coach at Los Lunas High School for years. Linda loved braiding all the girls’ hair while encouraging, loving and believing in every young lady and man she coached. She was the biggest cheerleader for anyone she loved, especially her grandchildren.

Linda was always cheering on the Los Lunas Tigers, recently the Valencia Jaguars, and looking forward to cheering on the Peak 2 Peak Pumas in Colorado. We will always long to hear her beautiful voice and her amazing laugh.

She brightened up the room with her gorgeous smile and always gave everyone the best compliments. Linda made you feel like you were important, beautiful, interesting, smart and always loved. The amount of love she gave, selflessly, was remarkable and unique. We will never be able to fill the space left behind by her.

Linda is preceded in death by her son, Daniel J. Work; parents, Helen and Efren Apodaca Sr.; brothers, Melky and Franky Apodaca; and sister, Lawrence Otero.

She is survived by her husband, John P. Gabaldon; son, John J. Gabaldon (Jessica); daughters, Erica Winnicki (Jeffrey) and Nichole Gabaldon-Barka; grandchildren, Kayden, John Nicholas, Ava, Landon, McKayla, Avery, Ayden, Mayson, Mercedez and Boston; siblings, Efren Jr. Apodaca (Rosemary), Patsy Jaramillo (Rudy), Connie Chavez (Henry) and Mela Baca.

Pallbearers will be Kayden, John Nicholas, Melissa, and Robert Gabaldon, Chris Saavedra, Anthony Chavira, Benito Baca and Jordin Cordova. Honorary pallbearers will be Ayden, McKayla, and Mayson Barka, Avery Moya-Gabaldon, Ava and Landon Winnicki, and Boston Work.
