Federico “Freddie” Salas

Federico “Freddie” Salas, age 85, a resident of Albuquerque, and formerly of Bosque, passed away on Nov. 21, 2022, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Services took place on Friday, Dec. 9, at St. Anne Catholic Church. Interment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11 a.m., June 9, 2023.

Freddie graduated from La Joya High School. He was a veteran and proudly served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Freddie was stationed in the DMZ area in South Korea and Joint Security Area. He returned and married his fiancé, Toni.

Freddie will be remembered for his sense of humor and unique laugh. He was a dedicated husband of 60 years to Toni, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Freddie was a dedicated Cowboys and Yankees fan. He coached Little League baseball in the South Valley, “The Mets.” Freddie was a member of St. Anne Church for 60 years. He loved to go camping and fishing with family and friends.

Freddie was a loyal employee at Sandia Labs for 31 years. After his retirement, he went to work for Dollar Thrifty and Hertz. Freddie loved driving for them and interacting with all their customers. He loved his car, a ’57 Ford Fairlane.

Freddie is preceded in death by his parents, Federico and Escolastica Rael; adoptive parents, Henriques and Barbarita Salas; son, Fred; brothers, Libby, Leo, Eddie and Harry; sisters, Cora, Barbarita and Candelaria; parents-in-law, Agustin and Alice; brother-in-law, Orlando; and sisters-in-law, Francis, Charlotte, Marie (Tom), Vina, Sylvia and Helen.

Freddie is survived by his loving wife, Toni Sedillo Salas; son, David Salas (Molly); daughter, Carla Salas; brother, Gilfred Salas; sisters, Mary Jane and Esther (Telles) and Bertha; grandchildren, Mario Salas, Michael Salas (Rachel), Alexandria Salas, DJ Salas, and Matthew Federico Salas; great-grandchildren, Ava, Jamaee, Max and Christian; brothers-in-law, Raymond, Paul, Sal, Sam and Jack; and sisters-in-law, Virginia, Gloria and Norena.

Pallbearers will be Mario, Michael, Paul, Charles, Enrique and Adrian. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert, DJ, Matthew, Ricky, Andres, Henry, Max, Henriques and Wesley.

A special thanks to Gil and Kathy, Valencia, Dorothy, Marlo and Samantha, who shared love and compassion in his final moments.

Freddie left us surrounded by family and friends. Your journey has ended, rest in peace, until we meet again.
