Frances “Frankie” Hawkes

Frances “Frankie” Hawkes, age 97, a resident of Socorro, passed away on Sept. 26, 2022.

Services will be held on Monday, Oct. 17, at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, beginning with a visitation at 9 a.m., followed by a Rosary at 10 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. with interment to follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.

She was born on Sept. 10, 1925, in Blackwell, Okla. Frances, who friends and family lovingly referred to as “Frankie,” resided in Belen from 1954 through 2000. She then lived in Socorro until her passing.

Frankie was a devout Catholic, and fastidious in her desire to return and to be buried in Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. She was a licensed practical nurse for 39 years, during which she worked as a nurse for Belen General Hospital, Dr. Llewelyn for at least 20 years, Albuquerque Veterans Hospital and at Fort Defiance.

Frankie was the birth mother of eight children and, in totality, a mother to 17 children.

She is preceded in her resurrection by her husband, James H. Hawkes; sons, David, Dykes, Dallas, David and James Hawkes Jr., and Edward and David Gordon; and daughters, Clara Priscilla, Marlene and Elizabeth Hawkes.

Frankie is survived by her sons, John and Michael Gordon, and Danny and Michael Hawkes; daughters, Clara and Martha Hawkes; 40 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
