Francis “Frank” Louis Sherman

1934-2023

Francis “Frank” Louis Sherman

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Francis “Frank” Sherman, 88.

He was taken to his eternal home with our Lord on April 21, 2023, after a 5 1/2 year battle with cancer.

Frank was born Dec. 26, 1934, in Venice, N.Y., to Myrtle Esther Dean and Carl Clarence Sherman. He was a graduate of Genoa High School and served in the United States Army.  He worked for the New York State Department of Corrections for 10 years before he moved to New Mexico in 1970, where he obtained his building contractor’s license. After retiring, Frank was a bus driver for Los Lunas Schools.

Frank was an active member of his community, where he was a volunteer coach, umpire and board member of the local Little League, instructor for the New Mexico Hunter’s Safety program, American Cancer Society Los Lunas Relay for Life co-chairman, and served as an usher and mayordomo for San Clemente parish in Los Lunas.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, who loved the Jemez Mountains. While at home, he loved spending time with his family, gardening and jigsaw puzzles.

Frank was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother, Herbert James Sherman.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary, of 56 years; his three children, Debbie Sherman, of Ballwin, Mo., Michael Sherman and his wife, Angie, of Wildwood, Mo., and Denise Doyle and her husband, Stephen, of Los Lunas; his seven grandchildren, Ashley Jiron, Micaela Cordova (Sherman) and her husband, Drew Cordova, Alexandra Sherman and her fiancé, Nick Waters, Mariah McKiven (Doyle) and her husband, Patrick McKiven, Zachary Doyle, Christopher Sherman and Zander Doyle; and his five great-grandchildren, RyLee, BrynLee, and Jase Jiron, and Grayson and Adelyn Cordova.

A visitation will be held from 5:30-7 p.m.,  Thursday, April 27, at San Clemente Catholic Church, 244 Luna Rd., Los Lunas; a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A final visitation will be held from 9:15-9:45 a.m., Friday, April 28, at San Clemente Catholic Church, with a Mass of Christian burial to follow at 10 a.m.  Interment will follow services at our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens in Belen.

Pallbearers will be Zachary Doyle, Christopher Sherman, Zander Doyle, Patrick McKiven, Jason Denney and Mark Garcia. Honorary pallbearers are Ronald Telvock, Carlos Tellez, Lito Chavez and Chuck Blanton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the San Clemente Parish Building Fund, UNM Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice in Frank’s name.

The family would like to thank UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center, UNM Hospital, the Veterans Administration Hospital, and Alyssa, RN, John, CNA, and the staff of Hospice of New Mexico for the care and compassion they gave to Frank and our family.

Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at Noblin Funeral Services in Los Lunas, where online guest registration is available.
