Gene A. Sais

1948-2022

Gene A. Sais

Gene A. Sais, 74, of Los Lunas, went home to meet his Lord on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022, surrounded by his family.

He was a lifelong member of San Clemente Catholic Church. Gene loved his home and his community in Los Lunas.

Gene was born to Arturo and Beatrice Sais on Sept. 29, 1948. He married the love of his life, Yvonne Sais, on Aug. 2, 1969, and together they raised their three children in Los Lunas.

The biggest joy of Gene’s life was the love of his grandchildren. He enjoyed every minute spent with them and never missed an opportunity to watch them play football, volleyball, soccer or act on stage. He was their biggest fan.

Gene worked for the U.S. Postal Service and retired as postmaster in 2004. In 1996, alongside his wife and son, he founded Main Street Muscle and Fitness Center. Fitness was a passion of Gene’s, and up to the very end of his life, he wanted to be exercising.

He was the ultimate handyman and was motivated by the next task at hand. He was always working, and even when he was idle, his mind was working on solutions. Gene coached YAFL football for many years and was instrumental in keeping the program alive in Los Lunas. He was warmly acknowledged throughout his life as “Coach.”

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Arturo and Beatrice Sais; sister, Dolores Romero; and nephew, Erin Trujeque.

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Yvonne Sais; daughter Yvette Sais (Greg Bank), son Chris Sais (Salina); daughter, Suzanne Sais-Mirabal (Andrew); the pride and joy of his life, his grandchildren, Nicolas Sanchez (Justine), Joshua Roberson, Elena Sanchez, Eva Sanchez and Gregory Bank; and sister, Diana Trujeque (George); along with loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 29, with Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas. A final visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 30,  with Funeral Mass following at 10 a.m. at San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas. Interment will follow immediately after at San Clemente Cemetery.

A reception will follow Interment at the Parish Hall at San Clemente Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Children’s Cancer Fund of New Mexico ccfnm.org/donate.
