Hugh Everett Coleman

A longtime resident of Valencia County, Hugh Coleman succumbed to complications caused by an automobile crash that occurred on May 9, 2023, in Bosque Farms.

Hugh was born in Shreveport, La. He attended the Louisiana School for the Deaf in his early years. He moved with his family to New Mexico in 1958. He subsequently attended the New Mexico School for the Deaf in Santa Fe, where he played football.

Hugh worked many years in his older brother’s jewelry business in Albuquerque. When the business relocated to another state, Hugh remained in Albuquerque and was employed by the United States Postal Service. He retired from the USPS so he could pursue his love of gardening, ATV riding and camping.

Hugh loved his pets and always had a dog companion. Although Hugh was deaf, he never let his handicap slow him down.

Hugh is preceded in death by his parents, Sam Coleman and Edna Blackmon; and his nephew, Ricky Coleman.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cecelia Garcia Coleman; daughter, Impala; sister, Frances Padilla; brother, Tommy Coleman and wife, Tami; brother, Sammy Coleman and wife, Linda; sister-in-law, Rita Lucero and husband, Fred; brother-in-law, Leroy Garcia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Hugh’s life was held on Wednesday, May 17, at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, 418 W. Reinken Ave.
