The Belen Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect who reportedly vandalized a local business over the weekend.

Police Chief Paul Skotchdopole said someone caused a “substantial” amount of damage at the Super Suds Carwash on south Main Street early Sunday morning. “The business was checked at 6 a.m. Sunday morning and everything was fine,” Skotchdopole said. “An hour later, the vandalism was found.”

According the police chief, there was about $500 to $600 worth of damage done to the local business. “The door frame was broken, the coin drop locks were damaged, and there was other vandalism done to the business.”

Skotchdopole said this was the second time in a couple of weeks that Super Suds has been the victim of criminal activity. He said that two weeks ago, someone reportedly stole vacuum hoses from the business.

“We believe whoever is responsible for this latest incident was cut while they were at the business,” Skotchdopole said. The police chief said officers found blood at the scene which led them to suspect that whoever did the damage was injured in the process.
