Joseph A. Guardian

Joseph A. Guardian, 79, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away on July 15, 2022.

Joseph was born in Winslow, Ariz., on Oct. 17, 1942. He enlisted into the U.S. Army and served his country proudly, earning a Purple Heart and Gallantry Cross for saving two soldiers in battle.

Joseph was married to his loving wife, Socorro, for 48 years, and fathered three children, whom he loved greatly. He was a loving grandfather to his one and only granddaughter.

Joseph enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, cooking, gardening and being a part of matanzas. He was one of the founders of the Rio Grande Matanzeros and won first place liver back-to-back. He was also one of the original members of the Ditch Bank Bandits, whose mission was to keep the bosque and community clean, and teach others how to fish. During this time, Joseph earned his nickname “Papa G.”

Joseph was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and earned his fourth-degree knighthood. He was also a member of the A.C.T.S. community.

Joseph is preceded in death by his daughter, Veronica; brother, Michael; and his parents.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Socorro; two sons, Anthony and Danny; and his granddaughter, Alexis.

God has called you home. Job well done, soldier.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 2, at San Clemente Catholic Church beginning with a viewing at 9 a.m., Rosary at 9:30 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. Interment will take place following Mass at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow back at San Clemente Catholic Church.
