LOS LUNAS—Jubilee Los Lunas has been recognized as one of Where to Retire magazine’s 50 Best Master-Planned Communities in the United States. It is the only community featured from New Mexico.

The press release from the magazine explains that the editors take into account housing options, amenities and location when looking at potential communities to be featured on the list.

The Jubilee clubhouse boasts a pool, archery range, pickle ball courts, access to nearby trails, as well as the community’s close proximity to Albuquerque and its airport.

Jubilee owner Nick Blea was elated about the news.

“It’s a tremendous honor and I’m very humbled that Where to Retire magazine would select us as not only the best, but the only retirement community in New Mexico,” Blea said. “We have a tremendous staff, the folks that live here are just beautiful people … I love spending time here.”

Blea said the community will remain a small, intimate community because they are limited in how many houses are able to be built in this location.

Patrick Fulmer has been a Jubilee resident for almost three years. He and his wife knew exactly what they wanted in a home, but had difficulty finding somewhere that would allow them to make the changes that they wanted.

“We looked high and low for just about three quarters of the state …” Fulmer said. “We visited Jubilee and it took about three seconds to make a decision.”

The Jubilee design team worked with Fulmer to customize the home that he and his wife had been searching for.

“When it was all said and done, we got everything exactly the way we wanted,” Fulmer said.

Jubilee sales manager Bailley Lujan said the houses are almost an afterthought in comparison to the importance of building relationships with residents.

“We could talk all day long about how proud we are of our construction, or how proud we are of the design or the changes you can make,” Lujan said. “At the end of the day, none of that matters — it’s the people and the community.”

Lujan said she and her coworkers get to witness firsthand the benefits the residents receive by simply sharing their passions and interests.

“One of the things that is so inspiring to us in the sales office is we watch a homeowner-driven activities schedule. There’s a hunger for knowledge where everyone is so willing to learn and share with their peers here,” Lujan said.

Unique to Jubilee compared to other retirement communities is their full-time, on-site activities director, Teri Montoya. She makes sure the events calendar is filled with things for the residents to take part in if they so wish.

“I think we’re all family,” Montoya said. “We get together, we plan events together, we hang out together … I have the great job of bringing everyone together.”

If a resident wants to teach a class, Montoya is the one to make it happen. If the residents want a celebration party, Montoya plans it.

Jubilee marketing director Samantha Sais said having a full-time activities planner is not common for many retirement communities, but attributes the successful community involvement to having so many activity options for the residents.
