RIO COMMUNITIES — The main event for the month of June for the Women’s Golf Association was the crowning of President’s Cup winners.
The tournament was played on June 18, with top honors going to Fran Griffeth in the 9-Hole Division, and Robin Boyd in the 18-Hole Division.
It proved to be a successful month for Boyd, who also played a round in which she broke 100 for 18 holes, and she placed First Net in her flight of the New Mexico Seniors Women’s Golf Tournament at Los Altos on June 20.
Others placing in the Seniors Tournament were Marilyn Winters, First Gross in her flight; and Dorothy Lindberg, Second Net in her flight.
In Ace competition for the month, Jane Dolan was the 9-Hole winner, with Tinky Ulibarri and Winters winning in the 18-Hole division.
Chip-ins were in abundance with Fran Griffeth, Berta Murzyn, Boyd and Lindberg each scoring one, and Regina Trujillo scoring two. Trujillo also netted a birdie, as did Kathy Burrow, with Murzyn netting two. Trujillo scored the coveted honor of breaking 95 in one of her 18-hole rounds.
First Gross Winners throughout the month were Anna Martinez, Cindy Hill, and Griffeth in the 9-Hole Division. First Gross Winners in the 18-Hole Division were Edie Redfearn-Moore, Ulivarri, Trujillo and Murzyn, who had three wins.
On June 29, WGA members assisted with the long drive, putting, and chipping contests that completed a well attended Jr. Golfers Golf Camp run by Tierra del Sol throughout the month.
In July, regular Wednesday and Saturday playdays are scheduled, with Ace Day competitions on July 13 and 23.
It’s not too late for ladies to join WGA. If interested, contact Edie Redfearn-Moore at 864-7015, or Kathy Burrow at 270-7048.
