Calls about trash dumped all over the area have been coming in to the News-Bulletin again. It’s the same story over and over again. How would you like to have trash dumped in your yard? That’s what’s essentially happening to many residents of Valencia County. It’s disgusting and unhealthy.

Why are there so many of us who can’t take the trouble to keep beer bottles in our vehicles until we get to somewhere to properly dump them? Why do we see couches and appliances thrown into our ditches? Who wouldn’t be disgusted by dirty diapers tossed nonchalantly out of someone’s car window?

One woman told us that the trash near her home is “knee deep.” A man says that dead animals have been thrown out near his home.

It takes so little time and effort to dispose of things properly. If only there was a magic spell that would toss everything illegally dumped back on the home turf of the dumper. We’d see how much you’d like to live with it everyday.

Take things to the transfer station. Make it a point not to toss anything out of your car window. Teach your children to understand that every candy wrapper that they toss casually out will blow into someone’s sandbox or school yard.

And volunteer for Tierra Bonita’s annual trash cleanup this weekend or on April 27. You’d be surprised how many tons of garbage have to be picked up in this county. To volunteer, call 866-2437.
