Belen High School sophomore Alicia Taylor qualified for the Class 4A state track and field meet in May after clearing 8-feet, 2-inches at a meet in Hobbs last Saturday. Taylor is the second Lady Eagle to earn a state meet berth in the pole vault, joining junior Jessica Braswell.

Also at Hobbs, sophomore Jocelyn Chavez, who previously qualified for state in the high jump, won that event and placed second in the triple jump. Also second for the Lady Eagles were Stephanie Sanchez in the javelin and Emily Schultz in the 110-meter hurdles.

The Lady Eagles will get their first look at their District 3-4A competition when they travel to Las Cruces this Saturday.

Meanwhile, Belen’s boys team and Los Lunas High School’s track and field teams will compete in Albuquerque Saturday. The Lady Tigers will be at Wilson Stadium while the boys will be at Milne.
