Appreciation for all

Editor:

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the volunteers, emergency personnel, firefighters and police officers who assisted in fighting the Big Hole Fire.

Thanks to all of your efforts, we still have a home. Your dedication, diligence and experience kept the fire from becoming much worse.

We also would like to thank all of our friends and family for reaching out to us and helping during this time.

Our hearts go out to everyone who like us worried whether or not we would have a place to return to and especially to those who suffered the loss of homes, structures and livelihood.

Dr. King’s legacy lives on

Editor:

The Belen Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Multicultural Commission would like to thank all the organizations and individuals who helped make our 28th annual Dr. Martin Luther Kine Jr. Celebration of Live and Candlelight Vigil so successful.

Our vigil flourishes because of the help and support of many entities and volunteers. We would like to thank the Honorable Mayor Robert Noblin, emcee Sabrina Sweeney, Wayne Gallegos, the Belen High School NROTC, Susanna Gilbert, Rudy Espinoza, Councilor Danny Bernal, the city of Belen and its library, recreation, fire and streets departments.

A big thank you goes out to the Valencia County News-Bulletin, who received a special recognition at the vigil for all of the years of support of Dr. King’s message of peace and tolerance.

Thank you to our Belen area school children and young adults who participate in our art contests annually; they exemplify what our commission stands for. The winners of the art contest were kindergarten through sixth-grade: 1. Luma Castillo; seventh through 12th grade: 1. Lenng Chan Hin; 2. Emily Armijo and 3. Amber Torres.

Each year we have organizations and individuals who gladly perform at the vigil. Special thanks to Tony DeNardo III, Mike Henry and Molly Kearney of High Desert Bag Pipes and the Honorable Mayor Robert Noblin.

The vigil is the culmination of a year of promoting the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and celebrating his message of non-violence and racial equality. It is amazing how each year our community comes together with profound dedication to committing themselves to the live and ideal of Dr. King.

We wish to thank our citizens for their participation in our vigil and invite all citizens to view all the art produced for Dr. King’s Celebration of Life at the Belen Public Library.

Terese Ulivarri

Chairwoman, Belen Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Multicultural Commission
