The Los Lunas High School Future Farmers of America’s greenhand parliamentary procedure team took first place in district competition in Moriarty recently.

Members of the team are Mase Wells, treasurer; Beverly Chavez, secretary; David McCallister, advisor; Preston Smith, sentinel; Lindsey Johnson, reporter; Ryan Stricklyn, vice president; and Adrienne Morrison, president.

The team will compete at state in Portales on Jan. 21.

Meanwhile, members of the chapter attended the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Ky., last October.

“We were able to see how the different states ran their chapters and all the different activities that we held. It was interesting to see how different our states really are from each other,” said Adrienne Morrison.

“Yet talking with our fellow FFA members and seeing the hard work that they have put into their chapters and the tough spirits and big hearts that they have for people and for FFA makes all the members of FFA similar.”

And members of Los Lunas FFA participated in the National Western Livestock Show in Denver.

Included were David McCallister, Billy Meyer, Robert McCallister and Courtney Schmidt.

Robert McCallister had two fourth-place finishes in the lamb show; David McCallister had a fourth and a third place in the lamb show; Courtney Schmidt finished sixth and had the reserve champion speckle-face lamb. She also qualified for the premium exhibitor sale and competed in the premium exhibitor speech contest and is eligible for its grand prize.

Meyer received a second place with his prospect steer.
