The Los Lunas Police Department is looking for a male suspect in an alleged incident of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he brandished a knife at a local grocery store.

At about 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 23, the man went into the Albertsons Market in Los Lunas, 2351 Main St., and shoplifted several items. LLPD Det. Nikki DeAnda said the value of the items is unknown at this time. As the man was leaving, he dropped his cell phone and a store employee picked it up.

“The suspect went out to his car and came back into the store. He threatened the employees with a knife to get his phone back,” DeAnda said. “A passerby intervened by throwing a pumpkin at him.”

The man fled, leaving the in a four-door white passenger car. None of the employees were injured in the incident.

The Los Lunas Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance to help identify the male suspect.
