Manforita (Peralta) Gallegos

Manforita (Peralta) Gallegos, age 94, a resident of Belen, passed away on Feb. 25, 2023, after a brief illness with her family by her side.

Services will be held on Tuesday, March 7, at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Visitation will take place at 9 a.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 10 a.m., and Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 9, at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

She is preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, Gillie; siblings, Florencio Peralta (Mercedes), Clorinda Perea (Phil), Leonor Torrez (Augustin), Socimo Peralta (Feliz), Simon Peralta and Eloy Peralta (Eva).

Manforita is survived by her children, Robert (Betty), and Orlando Gallegos, Frances Rangel, and Julia Harding (Keith), all of Belen; sisters-in-law, Dulces Estrada, of San Bernardino, Calif., and Lorie Gallegos, of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Windy Dunn (Craig), Charlie Chick, Nick Gallegos (Meghan), Richard Rangel II, Arlene (Marcos) and Kevin Harding; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Ryan, and Brooke Dunn, Juleon and Stacy Chick, Mariah (Duke) Richard III and Maurie Rangel, Marcos and Paris Valencia; great-great-grandchildren, Ikraius, Averianna, and Aubriella Espinosa and Marcus Rangel; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends whom she loved dearly, and her very special goddaughters, Marie Ochoa and Sylvia Torrez, of Barstow, Calif.

She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, and was proud to be a member of the Catholic Daughters of America for more than 45 years.

Manforita was born in La Joya to Juan Andres and Julianita Peralta, the fifth of seven children, and was raised by her beloved grandmother, Espiridiona, until her death in 1936.

She married the love of her life in 1951, and together they raised four children. After proudly receiving her GED in 1971, Manforita worked for Belen Consolidated Schools from 1972-1998. During those years, she worked as a secretary at the Pueblitos Elementary School, and library aide at Jarales Elementary, where she was beloved by staff and children, many of whom she maintained relationships with over the years.

After retiring in 1998, she enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, traveling and especially looking after her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whenever possible.

Pallbearers will be the Peralta brothers, Larry, Ricky, Philip, Joseph, Steve and Miguel.
