Manuel Gabaldon

1943-2022

Manuel Gabaldon

Manuel Gabaldon was born in Belen on June 10, 1943, and completed his work on earth on Aug. 26, 2022, at the age of 79.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pablita; father, Mauricio; and brother, Morris (survived by his wife, Tori).

After serving his country as a radar technician in Okinawa, he returned stateside to complete his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. During that time, he met and married the love of his life, Dolores.

He crossed the country raising his family but ultimately spent the most time in New Mexico. Manuel worked for years at the Public Service Company of New Mexico, then subsequently as a freelance electrical engineer. He was an avid skier and spent nearly every weekend during the winter at Purgatory as an adaptive sports guide helping people with disabilities share his love of the slopes.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dolores; and dearest in-laws, Donald and Chris Pino.

He leaves behind his sisters, Ruth Gabaldon and Viola Vallejos. Manuel will be missed by his children, Lisa, Denise (Julio), Manuel, Jude (Diana), Christina “Tina” (John) and John (Linsey); as well as his 15 grandchildren. He will indeed be missed by those who knew him.

We are thankful for the care he received at the Veterans Administration and ultimately the VA Hospice service.

Cremation has taken place with plans for a celebration of life at a later date.

A special thanks to Linsey Gabaldon for acting as a liaison between his care team and the family.
