Known also as Mayme Ramona Martinez and Mayme R. Sandoval, she was born April 20, 1941, and raised in the community of Valencia. A 1959 graduate of Los Lunas High School, she excelled in orchestra and chorus, where she earned All-State Honors.

Mayme was active with Future Homemakers of America, Girls Recreation Association, Travelers Club, Student Council and was a Christmas Queen Attendant in the 11th grade.

Known as a hard worker with a strong spirit and work ethic, it was not uncommon for her to hold two or three jobs in her prime. Mayme retired from the state of New Mexico Human Services Department after 25 years of dedicated outstanding service.

She played woman’s fast pitch and slow pitch softball, and Mayme also enjoyed bowling in Los Lunas and Albuquerque leagues.

A devout member of the Catholic Church, she attended San Clemente in Los Lunas and St. Helena in Hobbs. Mayme’s belief in the power of prayer was one of her greatest strengths. She took on the challenges of life with a fearless head on approach.

For the past 18 years, Mayme raised three of her grandchildren as more of a mom than a grandmother, being their primary caretaker up to the week she passed. An excellent cook, her kids and husband enjoyed awesome meals and always fresh tortillas.

Mayme is preceded in death by her parents, Eufracio and Aurora Martinez; daughter, Julie Sandoval; brothers, Charlie and Silverio Martinez; sister, Rafelita Martinez; and brother-in-law, Fermin Chavez.
