Los Lunas

By mid-June, a Hastings Entertain-ment Superstore will be open in Los Lunas.

Hastings Entertainment Inc. announced Tuesday it will locate a store in the 13,500-square-foot building located at 2341 Main Street SE, where Walgreens was located, next door to Albertson’s Food and Drug store.

Hastings offers a one-stop shopping experience for a wide array of entertainment and information products. “With more than 20,000 book titles, more than 15,000 CDs and cassettes and thousands of videotapes and DVDs for rent and for sale, Hastings appeals to all ages and tastes who want to see their entertainment dollar go farther,” Angela Carbajal, spokesperson for Hastings, said in a press release.

Hastings guarantees discounts on bestselling books and dozens of music titles, and video rentals as low as 49 cents for five nights. It offers a selection of discount software, hundreds of magazine titles, local and out-of-town newspapers and greeting cards, as well as soft drinks, popcorn and candy.

“Hastings is a fun and informative place to shop, with listening stations playing the newest releases in music. User-friendly information systems help guests find those hard to remember titles. TV monitors show previews of the latest and upcoming video releases,” she said.

“For those book-browsers who are in no hurry at all, Hastings provides everything from overstuffed chairs to a coffee counter featuring gourmet coffee with a seating area and tables where they can linger over a cup of coffee to enjoy a book.”

Founded in 1968, Hastings Entertainment Inc., as a retail division of Western Merchan-dises, a book and music wholesaler, it became an independent entity in 1991 when Wal-Mart Stores Inc. purchased Western.

The company opened its corporate headquarters and 100,000-square-foot distribution center in Amarillo, Texas, in 1995. It currently has 140 superstores, averaging approximately 22,000 square feet, primarily in small to medium-sized markets in 21 states.

Hastings believes in helping fight the battle for literacy by providing donation jars at every register, enabling customers to contribute to the local literacy programs, a news release said.

Other on-going literacy programs offered by the company are Story Time for children, Hastings Summer Reader club, and working with individual community literacy projects.
