Pilot Club of Belen sale

The Pilot Club of Belen is holding a fundraising garage sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday-Saturday, March 26-27, at 2295 N.M. 304 in Rio Communities. Items for sale include small appliances, collectables, clothing, furniture, linens and more.

Concert, movie and cruise

A drive-up concert, movie and cruise/car show will be held on Saturday, March 27, at the Vivian Fields on South Main Street in Belen. The cruise will begin in Los Lunas at 3 p.m. and travel to Belen, followed by the concert at 4 p.m. The movie, “Hop” will begin at 7:30 p.m., and the cost is $5 per carload. Two food trucks will be on site. There will also be gunny sack races for children, with prizes.

Memorial scholarship

The Jay Torrez Memorial Scholarship, in honor of Jay Torrez, of Tomé, who had a career as a Hollywood stuntman, is available to graduating seniors at Valencia, Los Lunas, Belen high schools and SODA, who are pursuing a degree in the film industry. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Provide a one-page essay describing why you are interested in film, and your educational and career goals. Applications are available at respective schools, and at The Los Lunas Museum of Heritage and Arts, 251 Main St., Los Lunas. The deadline is Monday, May 3. For information, call Regina at 227-6986.

Volunteers needed

Master Gardener scholarships

The Valencia County Extension Master Gardener Program, will be awarding $1,000 scholarships to two Valencia County residents who are 2021 graduating high school seniors.

The scholarships will be awarded to students who, this fall 2021, enroll into one of the NMSU campuses and into one of the following fields of study: agricultural science, horticulture, food and nutrition, environmental science, landscape architecture and/or design.

The deadline for the students’ applications and recommendations is Friday, April 30. The applications are available through the Valencia County Extension website’s section “Upcoming Programs” at aces.nmsu.edu/county/valencia/. St. Philip’s food pantry

Every Tuesday, St. Philip’s Food Pantry, 113 La Luna Place, Rio Communities, is open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Boxes of groceries and fresh produce can be picked for needy households. Let them know of any home-bound seniors or low-income families without transportation by calling 864-7954.

HCVC scholarship fundraiser

The Hispano Chamber of Valencia County is asking for the public’s help in raising funds for its 2021 Matanza Scholarship Drive. People can donate to the fund by either sponsoring a scholarship or buying raffle tickets, which are $15 each.

Sponsorship levels are Premier: $10,000; Platinium: $5,000; Gold: $2,500: Silver: $1,250; and Bronze: $500 for one scholarship.
