invited to Los Lunas High

Parents of eighth-graders are invited to attend the annual parent-student night for incoming freshman at Los Lunas High School at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 8, in the school auditorium.

Power plant session set

The New Mexico Air Quality Bureau has set a town meeting for 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, April 8, at Belen City Hall to discuss a proposed power plant in Rio Communities. Public comments will be accepted at 6 p.m.

Youth jobs being offered

Applications are being accepted by Youth Development Inc. of Valencia County for youth employment participants between the ages of 14 and 21. Positions are on a part-time basis, and applicants must meed federal economic income guidelines. Youth Develop-ment is located at 1850 Main in Los Lunas. For information, call Frank A. Plant questions sought

Valencia County master gardeners will field questions about gardening in a plant clinic from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, at Wal-Mart in Belen.

Matanza to raise funds

A matanza dinner to raise money for the youth group at Our Lady of Sor-rows Catholic Church in La Joya will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at M.E. Sanchez Hall in Las Nutrias. Cost is $5 per person.

Are you ready to stop smoking for good? The American Lung Association’s Freedom from Smoking adult smoking cessation classes are being offered beginning on April 14 in Los Lunas. It’s free. For information, call John Baca, 861-1013.

Tomé Grant Heirs meet

An election for the board of trustees of the Town of Tomé Land Grant Heirs will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at the Tomé-Adelino Fire Station.

Scholarship offered

A $200 scholarship is being offered to aspiring educators by Delta Kappa Gamma Alpha Beta Chapter. Applicants must live in the Belen or Los Lunas school districts or attend UNM-VC and be a junior or senior majoring in education.
