Memorial Day services
On Saturday, May 29, the Chavez-Curran VFW Post No. 2387, will be placing flags at area cemeteries. Anyone who wants to help, meet at the post, 122 S. Fifth St., Belen, at 8 a.m.
A Memorial Day service will be held from 10-11 a.m., Monday, May 31, at the Belen Veterans Memorial at Eagle Park.
The annual Memorial Day service at the Jarales War Memorial will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 31.
There will be a Memorial Day celebration and grand re-opening at Terrace Grove Cemetery at 11:30 a.m., Monday, May 31. The cemetery is at 1200 W. Aragon Road. Food and drinks will be provided.
Vacation Bible Schools
The First Baptist Church of Belen, located at the corner of Fourth Street and Becker Avenue, will be holding its Vacation Bible School from 9 a.m. to noon, June 21-25. The event is for children pre-K through 12 years old. For questions, call 505-861-8621 or email [email protected].
Peralta Memorial Methodist Church, 25 Wesley Road, will be hosting a free Vacation Bible School from 9 a.m. to noon, June 21-25. Children who will be going into kindergarten through the sixth grade are welcome and invited to attend. For more information or to register, call the church at 865-9334.
MLK Scholarship
Applications for the city of Belen Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Multicultural Commission annual scholarship is due 4 p.m., Tuesday June 15.
Applicants must be a high school senior who will attend an accredited college, university, vocational or technical institution in the fall of 2021. Three $500 scholarships will be awarded.
The scholarships are co-sponsored by the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. New Mexico State Commission. Applications are available at the Belen Public Library, from Kathleen Pickering, 966-2604, and Belen High School, from Royceann LaFayette, 966-1362. Completed applications must be returned to the library, 333 Becker Ave., Belen.
Capt. Tamara Long-Archuleta Memorial Scholarships
There are $500 Capt. Tamara Long-Archuleta Memorial Scholarships available to students who have been home-schooled through high school and are attending UNM-Valencia or UNM Main Campus full-time.
Mail copy of transcripts and a one-page essay about how this scholarship will help you in your education goals to: Scholarship, PO Box 819, Belen, NM, 87002. Deadline is Aug. 1.
Annual Believe in Heroes Memorial Run
The ninth annual Believe in Heroes Memorial Run, hosted by L.I.V.E. (Los Lunas Invested in Veteran Events) will be held virtually this year from May 29 through June 6. Participants can run anywhere, and will send their time and course (5K or 10K) to Marcos Castillo at [email protected]. After the participant sends in their information, they will receive a shirt and medal in the mail. All proceeds will go to the local veteran organizations within the village of Los Lunas and Valencia County.
Golf tournament
The Greater Belen Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 2021 Tim Lardner Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday, June 4, at Tierra del Sol Golf Club in Rio Communities. Registration and the breakfast bar begin at 8 a.m., with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start. A burger bar will be provided during the awards ceremony. The cost is $125 per person, or $400 per team. Community Job Fair
The Infinity High School Community Job Fair will be held from 8-10 a.m., Friday, June 11, at Tierra del Sol Golf Club in Rio Communities. Bring your resumes, smiles and job-seeking skills.
