DWI checkpoints

In the month of August, the Belen Police Department will be conducting Safer New Mexico, Operation Buckle Down and Selective Traffic Enforcement Patrol. They will be conducting a checkpoint on Aug. 21 within the city. Safer NM and Belen PD want to ensure the general motor public safe travels on the streets and roadways.

The Isleta Police Department will be participating in several DWI checkpoints through the IHSP anti-DWI mobilization during the months of August and September 2021. The department will be conducting patrol saturations as well as sobriety checkpoints throughout these months.

 

WWII in New Mexico

Richard Melzer and John Taylor will present highlights from their new book, “New Mexico in World War II,” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 14, at the Los Lunas Transportation Center. The two historians will also discuss the Bataan Death March, Navajo Codes Talkers, New Mexico’s Navy, the Manhattan Project, prisoners of war and Japanese internment camps.

 

Community Career Fair

A Community Career Fair, sponsored by Goodwill Industries of N.M. and N.M. Workforce Solutions will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 17, at Goodwill in Los Lunas, 201 Desert Willow Road. Featured employers will include Goodwill, Smiths, Manpower, Dollar Tree, Burritos Alinstante, Los Lunas Schools, CYFD, Aristech Surfaces, Halcon, Comfort Keepers and Dions. Annual Field Day

The Agricultural Science Center at Los Lunas and the Los Lunas Plant Materials Center is hosting its annual Field Day at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 18, at 1036 Miller Road, with registration at 7:30 a.m. The Los Lunas event will also feature a self-guided walking tour of the learning garden, a scavenger hunt, a bee and honey demonstration, and a master gardener Q&A booth. Masks are recommended for attendees who have not received a COVID-19 vaccine.

 

Jarales railroad meeting

A live, virtual public meeting regarding the Jarales Road railroad grade separation project will be held from 6:30-8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 19. A project presentation will be given and a question and answer session will follow. NMDOT and BNSF representatives will be available to address questions. Young Eagles Flight

EAA Chapter 530 will host a Young Eagles Flight on Saturday, Aug. 21, at Mid Valley Air Park. The goal of EAA Young Eagles Program is to introduce children, ages 8-17, to general aviation and aviation in general by giving them a free flight.
