Trash pick-up

A trash pick-up is scheduled for 8-10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 24, along N.M. 47 in Rio Communities. Citizens are encouraged to help clean up for only two hours. The cleanup will be between Mile Markers 19-20. Volunteers will meet at Rio Communities City Hall parking lot, 360 Rio Communities Blvd. Safety vests, trash bags, gloves and pickup devices will be provided on a first-come basis.

 

DWI checkpoint

On Saturday, Sept. 25, the Belen Police Department will be conducting DWI checkpoints within the city of Belen. The police department wants the community to be aware that DWI is a problem and they are out to keep people from driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs.

 

Rio Abajo Becker Street Festival

The annual Rio Abajo Festival, hosted by the Greater Belen Chamber of Commerce, will be held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 25, on Becker Avenue in Belen. There will be a car show, food trucks, corn hole, dance contests, live music, art, beer and wine and more.

 

Vaccine clinic

A COVID-19 vaccine clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Belen Public Health Office, 617 Becker Ave. The event code is JCUVUDM. Town hall meeting to be held

A town hall meeting with Valencia County Board of County Commissioner Gerard Saiz will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Highland Meadows Fire Department, 22 San Pedro Road, Laguna.

 

VSS re-open house, fundraiser

Valencia Shelter Services will host a re-open house and fundraiser from 1-5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 25, at 445 Camino Del Rey, Ste. E, Los Lunas. There will be tours, food trucks, artists, a silent auction, music and more.

 

Y’ART Sale

Tomé Art Gallery, 2930 N.M. 47, will host a Y’ART sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 26. The one-day sale will include art materials, art and other items. For information, call 565-0556.

 

Revivals set

The Lighthouse Church of the Nazarene, 104 La Luna in Rio Communities, will hold revivals at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Oct. 1-2, and at 11 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 3.

 

Fiestas de Peralta y Valencia

The fourth annual Fiestas de Peralta y Valencia will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 2. The Fiesta will begin with a parade at 10 a.m. starting at Peralta Town Hall. There will be a car show, live entertainment, bingo, raffles, jumpers, face painting and fireworks at 9 p.m.

 

Belen municipal candidate forum

A candidate forum for Belen municipal offices, sponsored by the Greater Belen Chamber of Commerce, will be held from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 5, at the Belen Public Library.

 

VCSO pancake breakfast

The Valencia County Sheriff’s Office will be holding a pancake breakfast from 7-11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 9, at Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley in Belen. Sheriff Denise Vigil will be talking about policing issues.
