DWI checkpoints

In conjunction with the New Mexico Department of Transportation and Safer New Mexico Now, the Los Lunas Police Department will be conducting saturation patrols, enforcement checkpoints and seat belt enforcement operations during the month of August.

 

BHS Class of 1971 reunion

The Belen High School Class of 1971 will hold its 50th class reunion at 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 11, with a dinner and dance at the Sheriff Posse Cafe (pay for dinner at door). Jarales railroad virtual meeting

A live, virtual public meeting regarding the Jarales Road railroad grade separation project will be held from 6:30-8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 19. A project presentation will be given and a question and answer session will follow. NMDOT and BNSF representatives will be available to address questions. 100 year celebration

The Order of the Eastern Star Jessamine Chapter No. 45 will hold a 100 Years & Friendship celebration from 12-6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 21, at 607 Goebel Ave., in Belen. The celebration will include a lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs, games for adults and children, a silent auction and a tribute to past matrons and patrons and past grand matrons and patrons.

The order of Eastern Star is based on a belief in a Supreme Being and is dedicated to providing for those in need through charitable works. Their current projects include Paws and Stripes Soldier’s Smiles and providing scholarships.

 

Legal workshop

A legal workshop for the elderly will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 24, at the Bosque Farms Community Center, 950 N. Bosque Loop. A power of attorney clinic will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

 

LL Museum  Juried Show

The Los Lunas Museum of Heritage and Arts has announced its theme for its ninth annual Juried Art Show, “Miracles and Remedies,” which will be from Oct. 9 through Jan. 9, 2022.

The show is open to artists 18 years and older, residing in the state. Artists may enter up to three works to be juried, and the fees are $20 per entry or $50 for three works. Music Walk

A Music Walk will be held from 2-6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 28, on Becker Avenue in Belen. Some of the entertainers will include Daniel Solis, Eddee G, Nathaniel Krantz, Tony Denardo, Sara Martinez, Jerry Dean, Mozzy Dee and Mose McCormack.

Fire departments throughout Valencia County are offering free home fire safety information and smoke alarm installations. Register to receive this free service from your local fire department.
